About This Station
Where in the
heck is it anyways?
This
weather station is located in west/central Morgan County. Its Northwest of the city
of Hartselle, just outside the Hartselle city limits. Here is a map of
the weather station's approximate location:

What kind of
station is it, and how do you get your data online?
It is a
Davis Vantage Pro2, I upload my data to the internet with
Ambient's
Virtual Weather Station.
It also uploads my data to
Weather
Underground.
What
instruments are included with the station, what do they look like, and what do
they do?
The
station consists of outdoor components and indoor components. Here's what each component does...
|
|
The black
round object is the tipping-bucket rain gauge. It measures how much rain
has fallen. Its open on the top, and inside there is a cone-like
opening. Precipitation falls in and goes into the hole, which channels it
to a see-saw like mechanism that dumps every time 0.01" of rain fills it. The thermometer/hygrometer is inside the radiation shield, below the rain gauge. Measures temperature, humidity, and dewpoint. Another major component of the weather station is the anemometer, its highest on the mounting pole to get the best readings. All the data from the Intergrated Sensor Suite (ISS) is collected by the transmitter and sent to the main console wirelessly. |
Another component of the weather station is the barometer, indoor thermometer, and indoor hygrometer. Measuring barometric pressure, indoor temperature, and indoor humidity and dewpoint. It's located inside the console (below).

All of the sensors send their information via radio waves to the main unit (below) every few seconds, the main unit displays this data. Another cable connects the main unit to my computer. And Virtual Weather Station uploads the weather data to the Internet for the world to see!
